Finish & Exterior Carpentry in Taunton & Southeastern MA
Carpentry is the work that decides whether a room looks finished or merely painted. Sorel has been doing both sides of it in Southeastern Massachusetts since 1991 — the detailed interior millwork you notice, and the exterior repairs that keep water out of the house.
Because we also paint, our carpentry arrives caulked, spot-primed and ready for finish rather than handed off to another trade. That matters most on trim and built-ins, where the difference between good and rough work shows up entirely in the joints and the caulk line.
Our carpentry services
Windows & Doors
Replacement and installation of exterior and interior doors and windows, including the trim, flashing and casing work that has to be right for the opening to stay dry.

Custom Built-Ins
Finish carpentry service for: unused closets and blank walls converted into shelving, cabinets, window seats and storage built to the dimensions of the room rather than a catalog.

How the project runs
01
Free estimate.
We look at the space or the damage, discuss materials and profiles, and give you a written scope and price at no charge.
02
Material selection.
We confirm trim profiles, wood versus PVC or composite, and finish — paint-grade or stain-grade — before anything is ordered.
03
Build and install.
Cut, fit and install on site. Exterior repairs get opened up far enough to confirm we have reached sound framing before new material goes on.
04
Finish.
Filled, caulked and spot-primed, and painted or stained if that is in your scope, so the work is genuinely complete when we leave.
Carpentry questions homeowners ask
-
General or rough carpentry is structural — framing, sheathing, subfloor, the parts that end up hidden. Finish carpentry is everything visible: trim, molding, wainscoting, built-ins, doors, stair parts and cabinetry. Finish work is judged on joints, reveals and consistency, which is why it is a distinct skill set. Sorel does both, and most of our carpentry work is finish work.
-
Common signs on Southeastern Massachusetts homes: paint that blisters or peels in the same spot after every repaint, soft or spongy wood when pressed with a screwdriver, dark staining below windows and at corner boards, visible gaps at trim joints, and doors or windows that have started sticking. Rot spreads along the grain and into framing, so the repair is cheaper the earlier it is opened up.
-
For exterior trim in constant contact with weather — corner boards, sills, fascia, water table — PVC and composite are worth the higher material cost because they do not rot and hold paint well. Wood is still the better choice for interior trim and for exterior details where a specific profile or a stained finish is required. We will price both when it is a real choice.
-
Yes. All of our carpentry is filled, caulked and spot-primed as standard, and we can carry it through to a full painted or stained finish. Having one company do both means no gap where the carpenter says the painter should handle it and the painter says the opposite.
-
A single built-in bookcase, window seat or converted closet is usually a few days on site once materials are in hand. A full wall of cabinetry or a stairwell rebuild runs longer. Because these are built to the room, we measure and confirm the design before ordering, and that step typically adds a week or two ahead of the install date.
