House Painting Contractor in Taunton & Southeastern MA
Painting is where Sorel started. The company opened in 1991 as Custom Painting & Power-washing, and prep work is still the part of the job we are most particular about — because it is the part that decides how the finish looks in year five, not week one.
We paint occupied homes across Southeastern Massachusetts: interiors, exteriors, cabinets, trim and built-ins. Much of the housing stock here predates 1978, which changes how exterior prep has to be handled, and it is worth asking any contractor you talk to how they deal with that before work starts.
Our painting services
Interior Painting
Interior painting service includes: walls, ceilings, trim, doors and built-ins. Includes patching holes, cracks and dents, repairing water-stained sheetrock, and cutting clean lines at every edge.
Exterior Painting
Full exterior painting and staining, with power-washing, scraping, priming and rotted-trim replacement handled before the first finish coat goes on.
Cabinet Refinishing
Kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and built-ins refinished in place — a fraction of the cost of replacement when the boxes and doors are structurally sound.
Wallpaper Removal
Wallpaper and border stripped, walls skim-coated and repaired, then primed and painted. Also wallpaper installation if you are going the other direction. Request wallpaper removal service.
Refinish Stained Trim
Stained and polyurethaned woodwork brought back to life, or prepped and converted to a painted finish without the grain and old stain bleeding through.
Brick Whitewashing
Our whitewashing service features a permanent, breathable finish for brick fireplaces and exteriors that lightens the surface while keeping the texture visible.
How the project runs
01
Free estimate.
We look at every surface to be painted, note repairs the prep will require, and give you a written price. Estimates are free.
02
Protect and prep
Furniture and floors covered, surfaces washed, scraped and sanded, holes and cracks filled, bare spots primed. This is the longest phase on most jobs.
03
Paint.
Brush, roller or sprayer depending on the surface and conditions, in the number of coats the color change actually requires.
04
Clean and inspect.
We clean up fully, then walk the job with you in daylight so anything that needs another pass gets one.
Remodeling questions homeowners ask
-
Late spring through early fall — roughly May through October in Southeastern Massachusetts. Most exterior paints need surface and air temperatures to stay above roughly 50°F for the duration of curing, and the surface has to be dry, which rules out most of the New England winter and the wettest stretches of early spring. Exterior work books up quickly for that window, so scheduling an estimate over the winter is usually the way to get the date you want.
-
On properly prepped wood siding, a quality exterior paint job in this climate generally holds up about seven to ten years, and stain on the shorter end of that. Freeze-thaw cycles, southern and western exposures, and moisture from poor gutters all shorten it. Prep quality matters more than paint brand: paint applied over failing paint fails on the same schedule the old coating does.
-
Yes. Under the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting rule, work that disturbs painted surfaces in homes built before 1978 must be performed by a Lead-Safe certified firm using contained work practices, because the paint underneath may contain lead. Massachusetts has additional lead law requirements for homes where children under six live. Ask us about this during your estimate — it affects how the site is set up, not whether the work can be done.
-
If the cabinet boxes are solid, the doors are not delaminating, and the layout works for you, refinishing gets you a new-looking kitchen for a fraction of replacement cost and in a fraction of the time. Replace when the layout is wrong, the boxes are damaged or water-swollen, or you want a different footprint. We will tell you honestly which one your kitchen calls for.
-
Yes. We move and cover furniture, protect floors, and clean up at the end of every workday rather than only at the end of the job. Homes we paint are almost always occupied while we are in them.
